Training in Polyvagal Manual Therapy for Manual Therapists
(PVMT1 – PVMT4)
Duration: 3 Days.
Requirements: Be a certified manual therapist or healthcare professional.
What You Will Learn
In the Polyvagal Manual Therapy 1 course, we will begin a fascinating therapeutic journey for healthcare professionals. We will explore the rich history of polyvagal theory and deeply examine its creator, Stephen Porges. This course will allow us to recognize and evaluate physiological states based on the fundamental principles of the theory, such as co-regulation, neural hierarchy, and the sense of safety.
In the practical portion, we will develop essential skills to assess and treat the facial muscles crucial for communication. We will delve into the embryology of the nervous system, with special focus on the autonomic nervous system. We will apply specific techniques to work with key nerves, such as the vagus, laryngeal, trigeminal, facial, hypoglossal, and glossopharyngeal nerves.
Additionally, we will use the voice, eyes, and tongue as essential tools to treat the nerves, and we will learn practical exercises to regulate and stimulate the ventral part of the vagus nerve. This course offers a unique combination of theory and practice that will deeply enrich your therapeutic skills and understanding of the autonomic nervous system.
Course Objectives:
- Understand Polyvagal Theory, its history, and applications.
- Comprehend physiological states to improve patient treatment and human relationships.
- Integrate Polyvagal Theory with manual therapy in clinical and social settings.
- Learn the anatomy and physiology of the nervous system, including its function, oscillation, dysregulation, co-regulation, and hierarchy.
- Apply basic myofascial, vascular, and neural manual techniques to restore human homeostatic balance.
Duration: 3 Days.
Requirements: Completion of Polyvagal Manual Therapy 1.
What You Will Learn In Polyvagal Manual Therapy 2, we will continue deepening the essential concepts of Polyvagal Manual Therapy, expanding both theoretical knowledge and clinical practice. This advanced module will explore in detail the connections between the middle cerebral artery, insula, and Circle of Willis, as well as the vascular relationship between brain and heart. We will address trauma from a comprehensive perspective, study the biology of addictions, and apply polyvagal theory in advanced clinical contexts.
Course Objectives:
- Strengthen understanding of polyvagal theory and trauma.
- Learn dependency mechanisms.
- Understand benefits of Polyvagal Manual Therapy.
- Begin treating the skull and cerebral vascular system.
- Continue using eyes/tongue as long-lever tools to release physical/emotional structures.
- Manipulate vagus, hypoglossal, and accessory nerves.
- Manipulate the Atlas and its components.
Duration: 3 Days.
Requirements: Completion of Polyvagal Manual Therapy 2.
What You Will Learn In Polyvagal Manual Therapy 3, we will immerse ourselves in the detailed study of the thoracic and abdominal cavities, addressing problems related to myelinated and unmyelinated vagus nerves. This course will advance your ability to approach patients comprehensively, examining 360-degree complications that may arise in the chest and especially the abdomen. We will introduce specific treatments for the sympathetic nervous system and apply targeted techniques for various abdominal plexuses. Additionally, we will thoroughly review stress mechanisms and learn to treat Somato-Emotional problems from a new scientific perspective, thereby expanding therapeutic possibilities in Polyvagal Manual Therapy.
Course Objectives:
- Deepen understanding of polyvagal theory.
- Comprehend ascending and descending informational pathways between body and mind.
- Recognize and modulate physiological states.
- Update the concept of stress.
- Differentiate between emotions and feelings.
- Study the enteric system.
- Treat the celiac, aorticorenal, hepatic, splanchnic, and superior/inferior mesenteric plexuses.
- Treat the sympathetic nervous system, intercostal nerves, and dorsal, lumbar, and least splanchnic nerves.
Duration: 3 Days.
Requirements: Completion of Polyvagal Manual Therapy 3.
What You Will Learn In our 4th course, we will complete the first section of this exciting journey in Polyvagal Manual Therapy. We will focus on the sacral parasympathetic system and its connections, aiming to significantly influence autonomic nervous system regulation and physiological states, while promoting greater physical and physiological resilience and elasticity.
We will thoroughly explore the sacral plexus, as well as the sacral and lumbar plexuses, pudendal nerve, cluneal nerves, and superior/inferior hypogastric plexuses. We will also learn to evaluate and treat the neurological aspects of pelvic organs in both sexes, including the sacral splanchnic nerves.
Upon completing the course, we will possess tools to scientifically validate our success as manual therapists through parameters such as orthopedic tests, blood pressure measurements, patient wellbeing assessments using pain scales, recorded attenuation of emotional systems, and HRV (heart rate variability) as confirmatory proof of physiological changes pre/post-treatment.
Course Objectives:
- Master sacral parasympathetic interventions.
- Learn topographic pelvic anatomy.
- Integrate sympathetic/parasympathetic/emotional treatment.
- Address pelvic-origin emotional issues.
- Understand abdomen-pelvis connections.
- Intervention to normalize colon excretory functions.
- Evaluate/treat reproductive organs (both sexes).
- Manipulate sacral plexus nerves (holistically and individually)
